India’s coastlines are diverse and gorgeous, with lots of personality. Several beaches in Goa and Kerala are downright paradisiacal, while elsewhere, the shoreline is more tinselled and all about long strolls and snack carts.
Kerala is known for backwaters, undulated palms, and an array of tea and coffee plantations which are guarded by western ghats in the interior of the state. Kerala shares 600 km of coastline with lofty beaches. Kovalam and Varkala, with their crescent-shaped white sand beaches, palm trees, lighthouse (Kovalam) and dramatic cliffs (Varkala), are a vision. Poovar, where fresh water meets sea and beachside resorts, are perfect holiday destinations. Once you go there and start loving it, it will be tough to leave.
Goa Everything they say about the beaches is true. They are neatly tucked in the Westcoast of India. Goan beaches are the famous beaches in India and Asian countries where most of the locals and foreigners hang. Even when overrun with travellers, they’re still lovely somehow. Vagator and Palolem are two of the prettiest, as is Gokarna, just nearby in Karnataka. Some of the beaches host night parties which have a vibrant music and mixed with the Goan culture. Don't forget to do street shopping on the roads which lead to beaches sells a fantastic and beautiful array of knick knacks.
East Coast Puri, in Odisha, and Visakhapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh, are more fun than precious: think esplanades, balloon wallahs and extended families on holiday kicking back and eating candy floss
Mumbai A city which never naps also abodes some of the beautiful beaches. Most of the beaches in Mumbai are noisy when overrun with travellers and locals, but the beauty of beaches will mesmerise you to live in a different world. Hit Girguam Chowpatty, eat exotic and exciting local delicacies, people-watch, and see how hot-pink the sunset can get. Juhu beach, the most famous beach of Mumbai where you can indulge in street food and one can spot taking of aeroplane as the airport is in the vicinage.
